Detecting Volatile Organic Compounds VOCs in Water
When equipped with its glass sparge bottle, the FROG portable gas chromatograph can detect volatile organic compounds (VOCs) in water down to sub-part-per-billion concentrations.
Water samples can be run onsite to reduce shipping and laboratory costs. This is particularly valuable for monitoring multiple monitor wells.

FROG Water Analysis – Water Sampling Study
There was suspected dumping of dry cleaning solutions.
Douglas Adkins, Co-founder and Senior Engineer, and Patrick Bingaman, Application Chemist, from Defiant Technologies went to work with the state of Kansas to survey the site. A total of 8 locations were sampled, with the samples being run onsite. The FROG portable gas chromatograph was attached to a computer, allowing the data to be studied in real-time with the Ellvin™ software.
It was concluded that most of the contamination was fuel-type products setting on top of the water table.

FROG Water Analysis – Extraction Well Study
Defiant’s FROG-4000™ portable GC was used to identify and determine the concentration of chlorinated alkenes in several extraction wells located in Tacoma, Washington.
These wells are in a superfund site where a former paint and lacquer thinner manufacturer and an oil recovery facility existed. Split samples were taken at each well and sent to an offsite lab for analysis. Co-Founder and Senior Scientist Patrick Lewis, Co-Founder and Senior Engineer Douglas Adkins, and Application Chemist Amanda Trujillo were on-site analyzing comparative samples with the FROG.
This field exercise highlighted the high degree of agreement between the offsite lab and the FROG-4000.
